With the ground-breaking Audi RS Q e-tron, Audi Sport was able to take home the title of "Racecar Powertrain of the Year Award 2022." It serves as an additional source of inspiration for Team Audi Sport just before the team's upcoming participation in the Dakar Rally for the second time (December 31, 2022, to January 15, 2023). The prize is widely regarded as among the most prestigious honors that can be bestowed in the motorsports sector.
Hosted by the business journal Race Tech, the event has now occurred again for the first time in London. At this gathering, professionals from all around the world discuss and share their insights on the most recent developments in the world of motorsport. At the same time, a panel of industry professionals confers awards on the most significant technological advancements. The title of "Racecar Powertrain of the Year" went to the Audi RS Q e-tron. Mercedes for Formula E, Toyota for the Le Mans Hypercar, and Swindon for Swindon were the other nominees (BTCC Touring Car).
According to Stefan Dreyer, who serves as head of development for Audi Sport racing and is responsible for the development of the innovative powertrain concept for the Audi RS Q e-tron, "Winning this award and receiving it on behalf of Audi Sport in London was an emotional and very special experience." This accomplishment is something that should make everyone on the team proud. The narrative of how the energy converter concept was conceived during the development sessions and how it was ultimately implemented in the Dakar vehicle is one that I will always remember. The bravery, the concentration, the stamina, but most of all, the affiliation with this idea has given a bonus.
Audi has once again cemented its place as a pioneer in the annals of motorsport history with the introduction of the Audi RS Q e-tron. During Audi Sport's debut performance in the Dakar Rally in January, the team took first place in four of the event's stages. In addition, Stéphane Peterhansel and Edouard Boulanger were victorious in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in March. It was the very first time that a prototype car had ever won a long-distance rally race.
The Audi RS Q e-tron features an electric powertrain incorporating an energy converter. Along with a high-voltage battery and two electric motors on the front and rear axles, it has an internal combustion engine and a generator as its primary components. Additionally, it has an electric motor on each of its axles. In conjunction with the Dakar Rally in 2023, Audi will also utilize sustainable fuel for the first time. This will result in a reduction of more than sixty percent of CO2 emissions.
