MINI has unveiled a prototype of a vehicle that blends the fun of electric driving with the open air to demonstrate its commitment to an all-electric future. Under the "MINI takes the States" banner is a single example of the all-electric MINI Cooper SE Cabriolet.
The all-electric MINI Cooper SE now comes in a cabriolet form, just in time for the summer. The MINI Cooper SE Cabriolet electric convertible car was not designed to be mass-produced but rather as a one-off prototype to test the waters of electric driving with as few frills as possible.
It is planned to debut the prototype at the annual "MINI Takes the States" event in the United States. MINI enthusiasts may taste the classic MINI go-kart experience in a MINI Cooper SE Cabriolet on the twisty roads between Burlington, Vermont, and Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina.
This one-of-a-kind MINI employs the Cooper S Cabriolet's platform but the Cooper SE's powerplant and battery pack. Combined with the car's light electric powertrain, the vehicle's balanced center of gravity makes for effortless, relaxed maneuvering.
The same 184 hp electric motor as the MINI Cooper SE brings the MINI's trademark go-kart handling and acceleration to electric mobility, allowing for a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 7.7 seconds. Drive freely in metropolitan areas and beyond city limits with a 230-kilometer (WLTP) range. You can open or close the soft top in only 18 seconds, thanks to its entirely electric operation and resulting silence. The convertible top has three different positions (open, closed, and sunroof) and can be opened at speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour with the stroke of a button.
MINI's singular focus on an all-electric vehicle is demonstrated here. By 2027, at least half of MINI's global sales will be fully electric cars, and the company will have stopped releasing vehicles with internal combustion engines. MINI plans to transition to electric cars by 2030 completely.
