The new Kia Niro is a proper electric vehicle solution

Kia Niro

The new Kia Niro is an easy way for customers to begin moving toward a more sustainable future as the electrification of mobility expands. The all-new Niro is the best option for those looking to switch to an electric vehicle, thanks to its three highly efficient electrified powertrains, a wide selection of advanced features and technologies, striking design, and other hallmarks of a ground-breaking CUV.

The all-new Niro is Kia's answer to the wildly popular first-generation model, which served as the impetus for the company's electrified vehicle lineup in Europe. It features numerous improvements over its predecessor and is now poised to become the class leader among compact crossover utility vehicles. Kia has worked hard to ensure that the all-new Kia Niro reimagining of the compact crossover segment stands out from the crowd of other electrified cars now available in European showrooms.

The new Kia Niro's cabin is thoughtfully crafted to be welcoming and easy to use, and the car's increased soundproofing helps dampen annoying engine and road noise. With an extra 20 millimeters added to the wheelbase and up to 65 millimeters added to the overall length, the new Niro's cabin is now roomier and better equipped to meet the needs of its buyers.

The Kia Niro gives buyers various electrified options, including a hybrid drivetrain (not available in Denmark), a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, or a fully electric drivetrain.

Kia's designers and engineers set out to improve upon the already impressive functionality of the outgoing model with the introduction of the all-new Kia Niro, which includes maintaining excellent fuel efficiency while increasing the purely electric range of the Kia Niro PHEV and Kia Niro EV. Customers can use reliable and advanced mobility solutions thanks to several technological improvements and optimizations made to all drivelines.

Kia's new Niro HEV and PHEV are powered by the company's cutting-edge Smartstream 1.6-liter GDI petrol engine, which features many advanced innovations designed to improve fuel economy. Improving the new Niro's fuel economy was a top priority, so the company increased the fuel injection pressure, changed the engine's compression ratio, improved the gear ratio, put in new low-friction ball bearings, and upgraded the cylinder head to better cool the exhaust.

In addition, efficiency is improved by Kia's innovative second generation of the 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox (6DCT) (6DCT). The new gearbox is 2.3 kg lighter and improves overall fuel efficiency by 0.62 percent in the HEV and PHEV models due to the elimination of the reverse gear and the use of the electric motor instead of the internal combustion engine for reverse maneuvers. When it comes to improving the driving experience, the new gearbox does more than just lower emissions.

The specific improvements of the all-new Niro PHEV include a more powerful 11.1 kWh battery compared to 8.9 kWh in the previous model, giving an electric range of up to 65 km (in mixed driving according to WLTP, with 16 " The EV mode of the brand-new Niro PHEV has been optimized by Kia's engineering team for the increased electric driving range and decreased emissions and fuel consumption. Kia's 5.5 kWh high voltage heater (PTC) means the car can run on electricity for longer in colder climates. Using electrical energy to heat the cabin and limit the need to activate the internal combustion engine, drivers will benefit from more extended periods of electric driving. The system's automated ceramic elements also provide better cabin heating in the EV mode.

Niro EV buyers can expect an all-electric driving range of up to 460 kilometers. With 204 horsepower (150 kW) and 255 Nm of torque, drivers can relax and enjoy the ride regardless of the weather. Charging the Niro EV is also quick and straightforward; under ideal conditions, it takes only 43 minutes to charge the car from 10-80% at a quick charger.

The new Kia Niro is built on Kia's third-generation advanced K-platform, refined and perfected to offer unrivaled adaptability, performance, and safety. In addition to holding Niro's three advanced electric powertrains, the platform's innovative design lets customers enjoy a lot of space inside the car and in the trunk.

Rear passengers in the Kia Niro EV have a ceiling height of 967 mm, while those in the Kia Niro HEV and Kia Niro PHEV models have a ceiling height of 1,005 mm. The front seats have a ceiling height of 1,028 mm and a legroom of 1,053 mm. Passengers in the back can stretch out and take it easy thanks to the 938 mm of legroom in the Kia Niro EV and the 1,011 mm in the Kia Niro HEV and PHEV. In its HEV, PHEV, and EV configurations, the Niro's trunk can hold up to 1,445 liters, 1,342 liters, and 1,392 liters, respectively, with the rear seats folded down. A useful 20-liter trunk provides a little extra storage space for customers who choose the Niro EV.

The platform of the brand new Niro is fitted with a McPherson wheel suspension up front, and a four-link rear axle, and the steering gear ratio is tuned for improved response, stability, and driving comfort. Kia engineers also put in a new strut bearing, which makes it easier to turn the steering wheel and makes the steering feel more natural and responsive.

As part of the project, it was essential to guarantee that the all-new Niro would offer unprecedented levels of safety. All Niro models have a multi-collision structure for optimal performance in frontal collisions. The body's proportion of heat-pressed high-strength steel has increased by 22% over the previous model.

The new Kia Niro is available for preorders, with deliveries beginning in the third quarter of 2022.
