Meet Liux Geko and Liux Animal: The Eco-Friendly Electric Cars from Spain

Liux Geko

If you think that electric cars are only made by big brands like Tesla, Lucid, or Rivian, think again. There are also small startups that are creating innovative and affordable electric vehicles with a sustainable twist. One of them is Liux, a Spanish company that has launched two models: the Liux Geko and the Liux Animal.

What is Liux Geko?

The Liux Geko is a small two-seater car that resembles a mix of a Smart Fortwo and a Renault Twizy. It has a range of 100 kilometers (62 miles) and a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph). It weighs only 450 kilograms (992 pounds) and has a body made of flax and resin, which makes it eco-friendly and recyclable.

The Liux Geko is not designed to compete with conventional cars or even other electric cars. It’s meant for urban mobility as a low-cost and zero-emission alternative to public transportation, bicycles, or scooters. It’s also perfect for car-sharing services, as it can be parked in tight spaces and charged easily.

The Liux Geko costs only €9,900 ($11,500) in Spain, which makes it one of the cheapest electric cars on the market. It also qualifies for government subsidies and tax incentives, which can further lower the price. The company plans to start deliveries in 2023 and expand to other European countries soon.

What is Liux Animal?

The Liux Animal is the second model from Liux. It’s a crossover-like vehicle that will compete in the compact class with more power, space, and range than the Geko.

The Liux Animal will have two power options: 142 kW (190 hp) or 179 kW (240 hp). It will also have four battery options: 46 kWh, 69 kWh, 92 kWh, or 115 kWh. The largest battery will offer a range of up to 600 km (373 miles) on a single charge. The top speed will be 200 km/h (124 mph), and the acceleration from 0 to 60 mph will take five seconds.

The Liux Animal will also feature a body made of biocomposite materials based on organic fibers and resins. The company claims that this will reduce the CO2 footprint by 40% compared to conventional cars. The Animal will also have an aluminum chassis and a modular battery system that can be easily replaced or recycled.

The Liux Animal is expected to start production in October 2023 and be available from the first quarter of 2024. The prices will start at €39,000 ($45,000) for the base model and €45,000 ($52,000) for the more powerful version. The battery options will cost an extra €9,000 ($10,000) each.

The Liux Animal will be sold exclusively online and can be reserved now for a deposit of €200.

What Makes Liux Different?

Liux is not just a car manufacturer. It’s also a technology company that aims to create a platform for smart mobility solutions. The Liux Geko and the Liux Animal are equipped with a touchscreen display, a smartphone app, and a cloud service that allows users to access various features and services, such as navigation, entertainment, remote control, diagnostics, maintenance, insurance, and more.

Liux also wants to create a community of users and partners that can benefit from its platform. For example, users can earn money by renting out their cars or sharing their data with third parties. Partners can offer their products or services through the platform or use the data to improve their offerings.

Liux is not the only startup that is working on small electric vehicles. There are other startups around the world that are working on similar projects, such as Microlino in Switzerland, Uniti in Sweden, and Sono Motors in Germany. However, Liux claims to have some advantages over its competitors, such as its low price, its eco-friendly materials, its smart platform, and its Spanish flair.

Liux hopes that its Geko and Animal will appeal to young and urban customers who are looking for a fun and sustainable way to get around.
