Polestar, the electric car brand spun off from Volvo, has been making waves with its Polestar 2 electric sedan and Polestar 3 electric SUV. But the company is not done yet. It has just revealed the Polestar 4, a sleek electric coupe that could rival the Tesla Model 3 in performance and style.
The Polestar 4 is based on the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform as the Volvo XC90 and XC60 SUVs but with a lower and sportier profile. The coupe features a long hood, a sloping roofline, and a short rear deck, giving it a classic grand tourer look. The signature Polestar grille dominates the front fascia, flanked by slim LED headlights. The rear end has a full-width light bar and a subtle spoiler.
The Polestar 4 is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers 408 hp and 487 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to propel the coupe from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, according to Polestar. The battery pack has a capacity of 78 kWh, which should provide a range of around 250 miles on a single charge. The coupe also supports fast charging up to 150 kW, which can replenish 80% of the battery in about 40 minutes.
The interior of the Polestar 4 is minimalist and modern, with a large touchscreen infotainment system that runs on Google’s Android Automotive OS. The system offers access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play Store, and other apps and services. The coupe also has a digital instrument cluster, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon sound system. The seats are upholstered in vegan leather, and the cabin is trimmed with recycled materials.
The Polestar 4 also comes with a host of advanced driver-assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and collision avoidance. The coupe also has a Pilot Assist function that can steer, accelerate, and brake the car in certain situations.
The Polestar 4 is expected to go on sale in late 2023 or early 2024, with a starting price of around $50,000. That’s slightly more than the Tesla Model 3, which starts at $39,990. However, the Polestar 4 offers more power, more style, and more features than the Tesla Model 3. Plus, it has the advantage of being backed by Volvo’s reputation for safety and quality.
The Polestar 4 is not just another electric car. It’s a statement of Polestar’s ambition to become a leading player in the EV market. It’s also a testament to the potential of electric coupes, which combine elegance and performance in a way few other cars can match. The Polestar 4 is a car that deserves attention from anyone who loves driving.
