Volkswagen is taking a big step forward in its electrification strategy with the launch of the ID.7, its first all-electric sedan, at its Emden plant in Germany. The ID.7 is the latest addition to the ID family of electric vehicles, which includes the ID.3 hatchback and the ID.4 crossover.
The Volkswagen ID.7 is a midsize sedan that aims to compete with the likes of the Tesla Model 3, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. It is based on the MEB platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles and allows for a spacious interior, a large battery pack, and various powertrain options.
The Volkswagen ID.7 offers a range of up to 435 miles (700 km) on a single charge, according to the European WLTP cycle, thanks to its 86 kWh battery option. The base model comes with a 77 kWh battery that delivers a range of 382 miles (615 km). The battery can be recharged from 5% to 80% in about 35 minutes using a 125 kW fast charger.
