Volkswagen is getting ready for the future at its main factory in Wolfsburg. On Wednesday, Volkswagen's CEO, Thomas Schafer, said the company would put about €1 billion ($1.1 billion) into the business. Four hundred sixty million euros in Wolfsburg, where the group's main factory is located. The money will primarily be used to start making the new, updated Volkswagen ID.3. The first ones will come off the assembly line in Wolfsburg in 2023.
To make long-term use of the Wolfsburg factory's production capacity, the plan is also to make a brand-new, small electric SUV. It will be built on a MEB+ platform, which is a complete improvement over the MEB platform and will make future electric cars from Volkswagen even more efficient.
The Volkswagen Group's new scalable system platform will be used to build the Trinity car, leading to more electric vehicles being made in Wolfsburg (SSP). Volkswagen will only make electric cars in Wolfsburg by the end of 2033, just like its other European factories.
Thomas Schafer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and board member of the Volkswagen Group responsible for the volume brands (Cupra, Seat, Skoda, and Volkswagen), told employees at the Wolfsburg factory, "Volkswagen stands for e-mobility for all. And Wolfsburg will be part of this success story. At our main factory alone, we will invest around €460 million at the beginning of 2025 to prepare the factory to produce MEB-based electric vehicles."
The brand's CEO Thomas Schafer added, "compact SUVs are the most popular type of car in the world, and our Volkswagen Tiguan does very well in this market. The new model will go well with our best-selling Volkswagen ID.4 and Volkswagen ID.5, which will help us strengthen our market position and give our customers the high-quality cars they expect from us."
Volkswagen's new electric SUV will be built on the MEB+ platform, which is a further development of the successful MEB platform. Schafer said, "There is still a lot of potential in our MEB platform. Our goal is to take this platform to a new level, so we are making significant investments in advancing the technology of this platform. The MEB+ platform puts us in a great position for the next few years." "in the market for EVs."
MEB+ will help customers in a lot of ways. The platform will enable you to charge faster and have a more extended range. Volkswagen wants to use the new, highly standardized unified-cell battery technology, which will be made at the group's own Salzgitter cell factory starting in 2025.
Volkswagen started a strong brand strategy for the electric and digital age of mobility with "Accelerate." As this strategy moves forward, the "Energize" program gives it a boost and will make the Volkswagen brand shine again. Based on the newly built and very scalable SSP platform, the Trinity project is still the strategy's guiding light. The project will start at the same time the software is being made. Wolfsburg has not decided where Trinity will be built, so Volkswagen is still considering building a new factory in Warmenau.
