A future Renault 4 electric car prototype was recently unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. An image of a compact electric SUV with sharp, retro lines develops, even though the dimensions are distorted: Renault 4EVER Trophy.
The aristocracy, so the saying goes, is obligated to help. And in the auto industry, new models must be given instantly recognizable names.
"60 years after the original Renault 4 saw the light of day in 1962, we are obligated to use the Renault 4 name for a wholly new automobile because it has sold over eight million copies in more than 100 countries."
But in this case, as with the forthcoming Renault 5, Renault has succeeded while still looking forward. One of the highlights at this year's Paris Motor Show is the Renault 4Ever Trophy concept car, a precursor to the production-ready Renault 4 that will be released in a few years.
Before the name SUV was forged, the original Renault 4 was already the industry standard. The vehicle had high ground clearance and a roomy cabin, making it comfortable on both paved roads and unpaved trails.
The Renault 4EVER Trophy concept car is the company's second all-electric show car. The first was a prototype of the super-sharp Renault 5, a commercial version that may debut as soon as next year.
Now, it's important to remember that the size of a concept car, or show car, is typically inflated compared to the final, production-ready version. Similarly, the volume has been cranked up to eleven on this one.
All the black components on the automobile, such as the wheels and side skirts, among other things, are highly exaggerated, but what is silver gray - i.e., the bodywork itself - is extremely near to the production version.
If you're familiar with the Renault 4, even the 2022 model's silhouette, horizontal radiator grill, characteristic headlights, ground clearance, tailgate, and small rear window will be instantly recognizable. The front and back lights are identical to the production version, and the Renault 4 will be the first to include an illuminated emblem.
The new Renault 4 will also be built on the new, purpose-built CMF-BEV platform that was first introduced with the Renault 5. This infrastructure has been refined to provide an optimal balance of speed and range without sacrificing the system's individuality. That makes it a four-meter-long vehicle like the forthcoming Renault 5. A total of 4.16 meters in length, 1.95 meters in width, and 1.9 meters in height define the dimensions of the 4EVER Trophy concept automobile. Its wheelbase measures 2.57 meters.
The Renault 4EVER Trophy may look the part of an off-road vehicle, but it can handle itself well on regular roads. Comparable to how the Renault Clio and the Renault Captur are positioned in the market today, the Renault 5 and Renault 4 will occupy a similar niche. Renault's new EVs, the Renault 4 and 5, were designed and will be manufactured entirely in France.
